Subject: Great Video
Thank you for posting this video, MLK JR. is a hero in my eye's.
I wanted to ask you a favor? would it be alright to use some footage from your video for a project that i'm working on to raise awareness to stop humin sex trafficking. MLK JR. is a really important person in this video and if noy in it, there is no soul to my project, so please help me help others that have no voice. Here are some stats of the problem: 1) Today, it is estimated as many as 27 million people around the world are victims of modern slavery. 2) Trafficking is estimated to be $32 billion industry, affecting 161 countries worldwide. 3) The United States is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children – both U.S. citizens and foreign nationals – subjected to forced labor, debt bondage, involuntary servitude, and sex trafficking.

MLK JR. had a "DREAM" and this is not it.
I need a quick reponse because the spot light for this video is due on 1/25/2014

Thanks Phillip

Subject: Rare Document
This is interesting on a number of levels. Dr. King was in fact interviewed several times before this and those are available on the "Eyes on the Prize," DVD, but this is probably the oldest complete interview of Dr. King. Judge Waring was run out of Charleston SC in 1952 for his pro-Civil Rights rulings, so this is probably the only known film of him in existence (he also died in 1968). Viewers who like this should know that many other films of MLK aside from the Dream Speech are on You Tube

Subject: Is this public domain? What are the rights to this??
As far as I can tell, "the Open Mind" is still owned by American Public Television (APT). Does anyone know otherwise??

Subject: Contact info for this video
Hi there. I'm trying to find whom I can contact regarding the use of this video. I tried going to The Open Mind website but no luck. I am a musician and have just completed a new song about world peace, and am in the process of putting together a video to accompany the song, and I would like to ask permission to use no more than a 5 second clip of Martin Luther King from "The New Negro".

I am happy to give proper credit for the use of this clip.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you! Please contact me if you have any questions regarding my project.

Sincerely,
Jason Farnham

Subject: He Had a Gift
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a gifted man as exhibited by his speach, use of words and mannerism even at this young age!

He knew he was writing history, he died for his cause, this is most commendable!

Subject: FROM THE BROTHER SIDE
A SAFER NEGRO? SAFER TO WHO? THE NEW NEGRO. AGAIN, NEW TO WHO? HAPPY SLAVE? AGAIN, HAPPY TO WHO? THIS, MOVING PICTURE IS AMERICIA, NOW AND THEN. SAME OLD S___, DIFFERENT NOTHING. LIFE IS FUNNY. WHITES WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE MARTIN LUTHER KING AS A MAN, ONLY AS LESS THAN A MAN BEGGING, SOME SAY SPEECHING, ABOUT THE DREAMS AND FREEDOMS OF, WELL, PEOPLE. OPEN MIND, AGAIN, OPEN TO WHO. I RATE REAL, FUNNY

Subject: Great time capsule
Interesting discussion involving MLK about the state of blacks in America at the time. This is a great time capsule straight out of the 50's. I agree with the other reviewer on here who stated that it is great to see footage of MLK aside from his "I have a dream" speech (which up untill now was the only thing I had seen/heard from him.). I was intriqued by their conversation about white liberals in the south having a reluctance to join the movement even though they secretly supported it.

Subject: I just think is is very nice...
...to have access to some footage of Dr. King sitting down and having a conversation about his views rather than just seeing the "I Have A Dream" speech one more time. Judge Waring's role in the push for desegregation underrated, and is of historic significance as well.

Subject: Racism in America revisited
Shows how current legislation on fair treament of all americans citizens regardless of race was brought about in the 60's. Martin Luther King speaks about the new negro, on how he discovered that he is finally a whole man and not half man, and how the black people demanded all the rights given to all american citizens is also given to them.

Note: Sadly events after 9/11 shows americans in general still tolerate racism and religous bias. It sad to think Martin Luther King gave his life in Vain, it is hoped people who do watch this program can be moved to change their mind on racism and religous bias.
